What is the Single Digital Gateway (SDG)?
On October 3, 2018 European Parliament and the Council adopted the Regulation establishing a Single Digital Gateway which entered into force on 11 December 2018.
The Single Digital Gateway (SDG) is a centralised platform (portal) that provides users with a single point of access to digital services, information and procedures of public institutions at national and European level. The SDG brings together a range of EU networks and services to support cross-border activities.

SDG will make it easier for citizens and businesses to:
  • take advantage of the opportunities of the single market
  • access online information
  • administrative procedures and assistance services.

The SDG will cover 21 life situations relevant to doing business, working, studying or moving, with the aim of simplifying administrative procedures.
Some examples include:
  • Birth of a child: Request for a birth registration certificate
  • Change of residence: Request for a residence certificate
  • Study: Application for funding for education
  • Employment: Request for a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
  • Moving: Registration of a motor vehicle
  • Retirement: Request for a pension
  • Starting and running a business: Registration of a business
